TITLE - Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP): The Role of Healthcare Professionals in HIV Testing, Counseling and Prevention

TARGET AUDIENCE - Target audiences for this program are Specialty Pharmacists, Pharmacists, Clinical Pharmacists, Specialty Pharmacy executives, Pharmacy Directors, Chief Pharmacy Officers, Infectious Disease Pharmacists, Infectious Disease Nurses and Nurses

LEARNING OBJECTIVES - After completing the program, Specialty Pharmacists, Pharmacists, Clinical Pharmacists, Specialty Pharmacy executives, Pharmacy Directors, Chief Pharmacy Officers, Infectious Disease Pharmacists, Infectious Disease Nurses and Nurses, along with other healthcare practitioner participants will be able to:

  1. Review various HIV screening recommendations and identify individuals who should be offered HIV screening
  2. Explain how to determine if a patient is a candidate for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP)
  3. Recommend monitoring parameters for patients receiving PrEP
  4. Describe effective strategies for PrEP education and counseling to address misconceptions and stigma
  5. Discuss effective strategies to improve patient adherence and care retention among individuals who initiate PrEP
  6. Recognize important factors when caring for women of childbearing age who may become or are pregnant using PrEP

Specialty Pharma Education Center (SPEC) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmaceutical education. This program is approved for 1.0 hour (0.1CEUs) of continuing pharmacy education credit. Proof of participation will be posted to your NABP CPE profile within 4 to 6 weeks to participants who have successfully completed the post-test. Participants must participate in the entire presentation and complete the course evaluation to receive continuing pharmacy education credit.
